Amnesty International has documented grave human rights violations in Nicaragua since the government of President Daniel Ortega began repressing demonstrations on 18 April
An Amnesty International delegation led by Americas Director Erika Guevara-Rosas will travel to Montevideo, Uruguay, from 30 July to 2 August to discuss the human rights situation in the Americas, including the crisis in Nicaragua with President Tabaré Vázquez, Chancellor Rodolfo Nin Novoa and members of Congress.
Amnesty International has documented grave human rights violations in Nicaragua since the government of President Daniel Ortega began repressing demonstrations on 18 April. Around 300 people have since been killed and thousands more injured.
Erika Guevara-Rosas will be accompanied by Belissa Guerrero, Amnesty International’s Advocacy Coordinator for the Americas. Both will be available for interviews.
On 1 August, they will present Amnesty International’s report Shoot to Kill: Nicaragua’s strategy to suppress protest before Uruguay’s Senate Commission for International Affairs. The event will be open to the press.
